When you're out for a meal with a friend, and the time comes to pay for the bill, things can get a bit awkward - who is going to pay for the bill? I know in Mandarin, people normally say 我们aa吧？I don’t know if this has ever happened to you, but sometimes, under the pressure of the moment, you might be tempted to say directly "shall we go AA?" However, in English, this doesn't mean 我们aa吧？ 6Instead, you can simply ask your friend: "Shall we split the bill?" This is the most common expression. You may have also heard of "Shall we go Dutch?" To be honest, in real life, it's not commonly used.
If your friend replies with, "Of course, we'll split the bill," then you can ask the restaurant staff : "Could we have separate bills, please?" or "Is it possible to get separate bills, please?"
However, there might be a situation where your friend says, "sorry, I don't have money." In that case, it gets interesting. But you can reply in a friendly way: "No worries, my treat or It's on me. Or it’s alright. You can get it next time!" Although maybe there won't be a next time! You know why😄
There is also a situation where your friend insists on paying, a simple 'Thank you very much' is often enough. You can also add a friendly touch by saying, 'Thanks! We can take turns next time.' "We can take turns next time" means that each person will have a chance to pay for the bill during another occasion. It's like saying, "I'll do it this time, and you can do it the next time."
