Hi, friends! This is Coco, welcome back to my channel! 🌟
Today I am going to share with you 25 English phrases that we frequently use in our daily life. I will keep it super simple and super chill. If you're a beginner, no worries – I've got you covered! Alright, Let's get started
1. The first one: Hello, how are you?
This is the most common phrase you will need when you meet someone, you can also say 'Hey, How's it going?' In the UK, people also say You alright?
2. When you want to start a conversation and get to know someone, you can ask: What's your name?
If you want to be more formal or polite, you can say: "May I ask your name, please?" If you don’t want to be too direct, you can say "By the way, my name is XX," as a way to introduce yourself. This often encourages the other person to share their name. Let me know your name in the comments below. So this is a friendly and natural way to start a conversation.
3. When you meet someone for the first time, just say, "Nice to meet you!" It's like saying, "I'm happy we met." In the morning, you can say, "Good morning!" In the afternoon, you can say: "Good afternoon!" In the evening, you can say "Good evening!" Very simple, right?
4. If someone asks, "How are you?" and you're feeling good, you can say, " I am doing great. Thank you. Or I'm fine, thanks!" or you can also say"Not bad, thanks. Or I am doing great. Thanks.
5. When you need someone's attention you can just say "Excuse me." For example, Excuse me, do you know where the nearest post office is?
6. If you make a mistake or accidentally do something wrong, say, "I'm sorry." It's a way to apologise.
7. When you want something, simply add "Please" at the end, as in "Can I have some water, please?" I remember a student once asking me why we add "please" in English. Let me give you some examples. Compare these two sentences: 1. "Pass me the salt." 2. "Can you please pass me the salt?" you can see, the first one sounds more like a command and might come across as a bit rude, what do you think? Let me know in the comments.
8. When someone does something for you, say "Thank you!" or Thank you very much! Or Thanks a lot. If you want to know more about this, you can check out another video I made. I have shown many ways of saying thank you in that video.
9. If someone offers you something and you want it, just say, "Yes, please!" It's like saying, "Sure, I'd like that!"
10. If someone offers you something but you don't want it, a polite response is to say, 'No, thank you.' And be aware that simply saying 'no' may come across as less polite
11. If someone says something you don't understand, just say, 'Sorry, I don't understand.'’ Or you can also say sorry I don’t get it. If you want them to repeat it, you can ask, 'Can you repeat that?' or 'Can you say it again, please?'
12. When you're shopping and want to know the price, just ask, "How much is it?
And if the staff asks if you need any help and you don't need it, you can respond with, "I'm just browsing." If you want to see how something looks, say, "Can I try this on?"
13. When you need to know the time, ask, "What time is it?"
14. If you're in a new location and looking for the train station, you can ask, "Excuse me, where is the train station? Or you can say "can you help me find the train station?" or "Excuse me, I'm not sure where the train station is. Can you help me?"
15. If you're learning English and want to know a word, ask, "How do you say [word] in English?" For example, How do you say this in English? Let me know in the comment, how do you say this in English?
16. When you're done eating at a restaurant and want to pay, ask, "Can I have the bill, please?"
17. When you need to use the internet, a polite way to inquire about internet access is by asking, "Would it be possible to use your Wi-Fi?" or Do you have Wi-Fi?Can I use it?
18. When you meet someone you've seen before, you can say, "It's nice to meet you again."
19. If you spot someone having a tough time, looking a bit lost, or just want to be supportive. You can say "Do you need any help?" or you can say let me know if you need any help.
20. When saying goodbye and wishing well, say, "Take care." It's a way to say goodbye. My favourite way of saying goodbye is Cheerio. It’s very common in British English.
